Left-of-center artist Saiah's innovation and quirkiness illuminates on EP, Non Binary

Few artists can blend a handful of genres into a two or three-minute song and make it sound cohesive. Pittsburgh born artist, Saiah is the king of unconventionality and angsty mood swings. The 22-year-old has arguably had one of the most productive years of any rising artists I have discovered, and each song is crafted with intensity and emotion that bleeds through his raspy post-punk voice.

I was first introduced to Saiah when he released his song' HEART(BREAK)' back in June. I was instantly hooked by his unique sound and ability to embody the highs and lows of life through his art. This single acts as a turning point for Saiah into a more meticulous and experimental musician. The bangers continued to unearth with his follow up single '(BLACK)PLANET,' a self-love black power anthem that beautifully juxtaposes the singer's garage-rap bars and empowering harmonies.

The artist continues to develop and dial into his avant-garde aesthetic with his new EP, Non Binary. This is a project that Pitchfork would eat right up and praise due to its carefully crafted messiness. The cohesive sound of Non Binary sounds like a distant relative of the anti-pop duo 100 gecs, and it works. Each song comes with its gut punches of bubble-gum and video game beats and altered vocals.

My personal favorite from the project (now playing) is '3NIGHTS' (not to be confused with Dom FIke). The track is a concoction of the punk-rap songs he released on his early-2020 project, honest red, and this new hyper pop world he has immersed himself into. I Check out the full song and EP, Non Binary, on our Spotify.
