UK-Newcomer Alfie Templeman Revives ‘80s New Wave Nostalgia with ‘Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody’

Updated: Feb 22, 2021

Eighteen-year-old Alfie Templeman is already of his time. The UK-based artist writes, produces, and performs his era-spanning of his '80s infused new-wave pop songs. All the oldies inspire him, and it's telling in his sound. The AWAL-signee has made an impression on Spotify playlist editors and fans alike. His tracks have sat on top of acclaimed playlists like Ultimate Indie, Anti-Pop, and Alternative 10s. They have accumulated millions of streams, and his defining track' Happiness In Liquid Form' had us bopping on repeat when it was released last year.

Templeman has started this year on a high note with his vivacious single, 'Everybody's Gonna Love Somebody.' The uppity anthem pays homage to the summer smash hits of the '80s but with a vibrant and refreshing modern spin. The track is an irresistible no-skipper and continues to secure Templeman's spot as a legend in the making. Templeman is gearing up for his global domination on May 9th, accompanied by the release of his 'mini-album' Forever Isn't Long Enough.

Templeman says that he "just wanted to make a universal song, without too much of a deeper meaning to it" and that he "wrote it when [he] was 14 so [he] was too young to deep on the lyrics or anything like that." Regarding his upcoming mini-album, Templeman goes on to reveal that the "songs took anywhere from one day to 4 months to 2 years to finish for this record, but I made sure each one was perfect, and I've never been more proud of how they all came out."

When asked about his individualized style, Templeman told us that he's "inspired by much older songs than most indie artists," and that "Todd Rundgren and Rush are two of my biggest influences."
